FAEVERSE | thread ☇ looking on snow with new eyes

Winter came down to our home one night
Quietly pirouetting in on silvery-toed slippers of snow,
And we, we were children once again.
~Bill Morgan, Jr.Things had been going relatively well. It certainly could have been going much worse. He had pretty much moved into his living room because he'd given Titania the bedroom. Surprisingly, it didn't ( Read more... )

It was still hard for her to stay sleeping when she felt dawn creeping up on night, her faerie connection to Helios and Selene still unfaded. She imagined that it would with time but for the moment, it seemed, Titania would still have to wake with dawn. She had learned enough to stay in the confines of the room until she was certain that Puck was awake and moving.

Today, though, that came earlier than usual, and she slid out of the bed to an uncharacteristic chill in the air and dressed quickly in the warmest thing that she had managed to acquire in the time that she had been here and slipped out of the door. She had known that winter was coming, but hadn't been expecting it quite so soon.

Spotting him, though, she couldn't resist the question.

"What are you doing?"

"Good morning Lady," Puck said, turning around to look at her, then gestured at the window. "We have a surprise this morning. Would you care for some tea?"

Maybe he should get her something warmer, she looked chilled. Michelle had been helpful, but she was out of town for a few weeks on a contract job.

A single glance out the window showed the snow that she had suspected already was there, blanketing everything that she could see. Winter had its merits, certainly, but it was still her least favorite of the seasons. Everything felt so dead and even if she knew that everything would revive come Spring, there was still some kind of despair that ran as an undercurrent to the whole thing.

Eventually, she tore her eyes from the window and nodded, uttering a soft "yes, please" in the general direction of the floor before she raised her gaze to actually lok at him. "Weren't you cold?"

Puck shrugged by way of an answer, focusing on the task of making a good tea. He knew now the way that she preferred it and though it would never replace his caffeine intake, he would have some from time to time.

Once he had brought the mug to her, he finally replied properly, "Not really. This isn't the coldest place I've stayed."

True to his word, the streets were still mostly empty as they left the loft. Snow crunched underfoot, but the chill in the air wasn't bitter enough to signify that it would last for longer than a day or two. Still, he thought it would be best to make sure the next one didn't catch them so unawares.

They were walking in silence for the moment, but only because he couldn't think of anything to say.

Even she had to admit that there was something charming about anything that could make the city appear less blatantly mortal- even as cold as it was. Of course she couldn't admit that he had been right, so she kept that revelation to herself, walking next to him along the street.

Eventually, though, she couldn't take the silence any longer.

"Where are we going?"

"To get you some warmer clothes," Puck echoed his earlier explanation. He could tell her the store specifically, but it would mean no more to her than telling her the street and cross-street, the block or any other information.

To be accurate, it was more of a boutique they were visiting, small and personal and had been around probably since they started paving the streets in this city. However they specialized in quick service and using all natural materials for their wares. Puck thought maybe Titania would appreciate not being clad head to toe in synthetics, but even if she hadn't cared, quality work was still quality work.

"Here we are," he said presently.

The buildings had all started to run together-she still hadn’t really gotten used to the city, used to so many walls all shoved right up next to each other. She didn’t particularly care, besides. Perhaps she would get to that point someday, but for now it didn’t seem all that important.

The store, though, was interesting, with all of the clothing draped over hangers and displayed in ways so as to show it off best, and a small smile found its way to her face as she decided that she liked it after all, though she couldn’t resist the teasing.

“And where is ‘here?’”
