There are times when he thinks that it might, when he thinks that this might be an epiphany, might reveal something of great and epic import about his Father's children, but these times pass quickly, are lost with the path of chemicals twisting through this human shell, igniting paths, burning others.
And this: when the silence becomes almost tangible, as though it might seep black from the trees at any moment. The air smells faintly of smoke and sulfur, cinder and soot. Something is burning again. Something is always burning.
And the whole passage about remembrance. And the praying and the sudden disconnect with what Castiel /was/. This is just beautifully written and gorgeously evocative.
