HR 163 was introduced by the Democrat from New York (rangel) and S 89 by the democrat from South Carolina (Hollings). Neither support Bush. Both of these have been in committee for over a year and there hasn't been any discussion on them. Here is the CNN article that came out at that time. The administration is not trying to get anything passed as the article alledges. Not some great conservative conspiracy. "Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told reporters Tuesday he sees no need for a draft. He said the military is managing to attract enough skilled recruits without one." And from another news site it talks about how the whole thing started as an email and basically shot around so much that the pentagon has denied that the draft is coming back. Because it isn't. There is no reason for it. Most people, liberal and conservative alike have rejected the idea of mandatory service. People are just scared because of Iraq and think this will stop people from voting conservative. Funny since the bills were introduced by democrats ( ... )
