Patience
As an actor, one would say that Jo Jungsuk has met his fair share of good-looking women. Lee Yoonji, in his opinion however, is not simply that. She is beautiful.
Breathtakingly so.
Jungsuk has seen her on the television numerous of times before he meets her. It is at the set of this project portraying a unified Korea in modern setting. But the first time he lays his eyes on her in person, he's sure his heart skipped a beat. With her red-tinged hair, plump lips, expressive almond eyes, and smile that never ceases to dazzle the actor, he really can't deny it.
And as cliche as it is, it is love at first sight.
His admission of love, albeit only to himself, results to discomfort whenever Lee Yoonji is before him. And while she is friendly and humble and quick witted, Jungsuk's only real consolation is that Eun Shikyung himself is extremely awkward around the Princess.
So, for him, he isn't doing any acting at all! The chore is when they aren’t filming. Jungsuk doesn’t have an excuse for the stuttering and the awkward glances; yet he can’t help but go and get close to her.
He asks her, a few times, to eat with him. She acquiesces. He tries his damned hardest to not be awkward. You’re an actor, he tells himself, so act!
And he does.
For a couple, or so, friendly dates he pretends to be all tough and manly.
Then she charges into the wall he’s built. It is unconscious on her part, of course. And it has a great deal to do with dogs. Because, really, no one can ever keep a wall against creatures so cute. One has to be made of unfeeling material.
And Jo Jungsuk is very, very sentimental.
He apologizes to her, then asks her to coffee. He tells her that he likes her.
She blushes.
“Let's go steady,” he says breathlessly. “Or exclusive, whichever you want to call it.”
“Jungsuk oppa, I'm not one who harbors romances with people I work with.” Comes Yoonji’s declaration. “I'd rather keep things professional,” she explains.
“Our project together is finished, Yoonjiyah. I dare say we kept things between us professional while we work.” He tries to reason with her.
“That's going at it in a roundabout way, oppa.”
“I'm not asking you to marry me, if that's what you're afraid of,” Jungsuk tries to reassure her. “Well at least not yet. But I'm not adverse to the idea of marriage... with you. But not yet,” he breathes. “I'm not closing my heart to such possibility.” A pause follows. “What I'm trying to say is that I really like you. I think I'm even already halfway in love with you and falling deeper each and everyday. And i want to be with you. that's all. For now, I just want to be with you; to spend as much time as possible with you and to get to know you better.”
He looks her in the eye, hoping that his gaze tells her more of what he wants her to know that has been muddled by his words. His nerves eat at him. And in the back of his head, he’s regretting ever bringing up this topic with her.
He shouldn’t have.
“You do like me too, don't you?” he finally asks, tone pleading.
“I do. But-“ Yooji answers and tries to reason out again.
“Give it a chance. Please give us a chance. We could be good for each other.”
She takes a while to answer. Jungsuk gazes at her and watches every movement and breath she takes. She takes her lower lip between her teeth as she reflects on his question-his request. He doesn't prod. He merely gives her time-the freedom to choose.
He hopes that she'll choose to be with him. His heart yearns for her to choose him.
“I'll need time. Let me think about this. You know it'll be a very big contradiction of my... politics.”
“It's no problem. I am a patient man. I will wait for you.”
