Thoughts at the End of DH *MAJOR SPOILERS*

Jul 22, 2007 12:50

I've not read any other reviews yet, and this may the hundredth one by now, but I wanted to express my initial thoughts on DH before being influenced by anyone else's. This is a long, but pretty damn fair review, at least imo. :)

Entertained, but Not Satisfied )

Wow, congratulations on having the most beautiful and thoughtful review I have read. You managed to say all te things I was trying to convey and couldn't put into words.
All I got was attraction. I still don't know why Hermione loves Ron. I know Harry thinks Ginny's beautiful and likes to kiss her, and that Ginny thinks Harry's a hero, but there's not anything other than that I couldn't agree more.

Thanks for the kind words! I was hoping it wasn't too much of a mess. :)

I think I'll probably read this one again, even though it could've used some editing. It's unnecessarily long. But I enjoyed it, especially the last few chapters when Harry isn't fumbling around as much. Most mportantly, Hermione's her brilliant self again. i could not have taken another HBP Hermione.

Wearing the locket around their necks and how it affected their spirits was too much like LotR--Sam and Frodo's dramatic trek up to Mordor. Where was it stated that they had to wear it? Or did I miss something? Couldn't they just carry it in Hermione's handy bag?

I think James had an inheritance judging from the money that was left to Harry at Gringotts.

I still don't know why Hermione loves Ron, either.

There's so much going on that I need some time to let it sink in. Maybe more thoughts later.

I'll definitely read DH again at a slower rate. I did like Hermione much better in this one, except the Ron'sfangirl!Hermione in a few scenes. She absolutely rocked when they needed saving.

You're right--the locket wearing was too LotR. I thought that was a bit silly, too.

James did have an inheritance, but JKR has said in interviews that James and Lily's occupations were important and we would find out in the seventh book.

R/Hr? The world may never know. :)

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts after some reflection. Mine were pretty reflexive and I'm sure I'll have others once I reread.

Hey hun :D Great review! I did one of my own and we agree on just about everything.

The one thing of yours that jumped out at me was: "There was absolutley no need for the Deathly Hallows in this book."

Yes! Yes! Yes! Thank you! I completely agree. It felt like one more subplot that made things needlessly complicated and pulled attention away from the story. She could have used that time to focus on character development.

You wrote: "What an oversight to never have anyone say, "I love you," to Harry in the final book."

I hated the Evil!H/Hr scene but one good thing did come out of it. (I understood it, but I didn't like it) Harry used the 'L' word for the first time in reference to someone and that someone was Hermione. "I love Hermione as a sister" Regardless of the context, he NEVER says that he loves anyone else in any of the books. Not even his future wife.

Oh, and the graveyard scene? Perfect; just perfect.

*tackleglomps you*

I didn't notice that, so thanks for bringing it to my attention!

*hugs you back*

Happy to :D For me, it was the consolation prize that I tucked away in my shippy heart as I finished the book.

Nice new name BTW.Enjoyed reading your review of the book and agree with the points you brought out. It seemed to be a great adventure/action book and with the right director/screeplay writer would be great to watch on screen. It felt strange to read HHr so cold to each other right after Ron left but it did give us the best written, romantic moments in the book---this from the characters she wrote to love each other like siblings **rolls eye**. It seemed that she had all the opportunity to write H/G and R/Hr as deeper relationships but chose not to do so. Oh well there is always fandom.

Thanks, about the new name. :)

The lack of warmth between Harry and Hermione after Ron left was not consistent with anything we've seen in the first 6 books. At least we got the graveyard scene--that was beautiful.

As I've said before, I would have accepted any pairing that had been well-built. The ones we were left with are full of so many holes, they don't float.
