Please celebrate with me, we found out this afternoon that Lissa's cystic fibrosis test came back negative, as did the hereditary pancreatitis test
( Read more... )
Hey!!!!!! Long time no see, huh??? :-) I am just reading through some old entries and this one hit me because, well, Wyn's ped wants her tested to rule out CF. I am pregnant again, so I opted instead to have a genetic screen done on me to determine if I'm a carrier (if I am, we will go ahead with Bitty's test). Holding our breaths, praying I am not a carrier...
Am so happy to hear Lissa's tests came back negative. That is GREAT news! What was the reason they suspected CF in the first place?
I'm sorry to hear that you're having to go through this. I completely understand and you have my thoughts and prayers.
Lissa has chronic pancreatitis and that's one of the byproducts of CF. The mucous caused by CF is apparently all through the body and can block ducts, such as the ones from the pancreas to the stomach. This backs up the enzymes into the pancreas and causes inflamation, which is the pancreatitis. I wasn't aware that CF could be discovered in the pre-teen/teen years, but it can be.
