I've been working on a photo series for about a year, but I've been blocked because something didn't feel right about it. One day I realized that I didn't want to put the image in traditional mats and frames. Instead, I wanted to mount them in custom-painted shadowbox frames. I found the right boxes in Japantown. Thanks!

I think I have just enough intuition and willingness to experiment that I can pull off something passable. The light red/dark red panel actually gave ma a huge clue today. I tried painting over the dark color with a light drawing, and over the light color with a dark drawing. Now I know light on dark is what I want, so I know how to build up the layers. I can sponge nearly-identical colors over solid areas to cover up my horrible brush work.

I'm either going to look back in ten years and say "OK, that was the start of something cool", or, "what in the fsck were you thinking?!"

Where do you keep your kitties when you are experimenting with paint? Our cats would need to be doused in turpentine afterwards....

I don't know how it happened, but I managed to get two cats who don't jump on things, don't tear things up, and for the most part aren't pests. Every now and then I have to tell Boo that he's not allowed to sit there and paw at my leg, which his usual way of getting my attention, but mostly he does that when I'm sitting at my desk.
