Ouch

I was over to a friend's for Thanksgiving dinner yesterday. It being Thanksgiving, I wanted to say a grace before the meal, but when I made the suggestion, I got ridiculed. I tried to shove it down as best I could. But I still feel hurt. I hate being made fun of.

Wow. That really sucks. Are these people atheists? That's the only way I can justify that behavior, and even then, there could've been a thousand better ways to have handled it than the way they did.

*BIG HUG* I'm really very sorry you had to experience that.

One Pagan and one non-declared. And since I am Pagan, that's what species the grace would have been.

Thanks for the hug.

And even THEN, I'm sure atheists can be thankful as well. :\

I suspect the objection was that grace is most often associated with Christian practices but I could be wrong.

Either way, it is sad this has happened between friends.

That's rude and not very much like Thanksgiving is meant to be, IMO....where do these folks think all the abundance of their lives comes from, and if they don't say Grace, whom are they "Thanking"? Themselves?

The irony is that when I say grace at social gatherings, I offer thanks not only for the food but for the company in which it is being eaten. Being made fun of by said company kind of took that motivation away.

I don't generally say grace, but if a guest wanted to say grace, I would hope I'd be gracious enough to agree to them doing so. Sorry it was such a unpleasant experience.
