I haven't tried yoga personally, but I do know it's better for mental health and relaxation than it is for weight loss. Pilates is better in that regard as it's more muscle work along with the stretching.
I am a firm believer that walking is a great exercise, and it's free! :)
Yoga is also really good for keeping from hurting yourself while doing aerobics or weightlifting, as it's about breathing, stretching and learning how to be more aware of your body's limits and condition.
I love yoga. I don't know personally about weight loss, but when you get into the more advanced stuff it's better than weightlifting. It's excellent for 'core strength'. As for the mental benefits, it's the only time I let my brain stop spinning.
