I got doored yesterday. I'm really pissed at myself for not calling the cops, because the woman who did it totally didn't give a shit that she did it, and I'm pretty sure she thought it was my fault. Hey, it wasn't. She didn't even say sorry or ask if I was ok, just kind of gawked at me as I laid in the middle of the road, Matt came and helped me ( ( Read more... )

The story to the 2nd to last picture really amused me.

I LOVE your plants.

I'm sorry about the accident. I hope you're ok.

Man, that sucks. I always check my mirror before opening my door because I'm so paranoid about getting doored myself that I never want to be the one to do it. The other day I was super hungry on my way to eat and opened my door without looking and then was extremely pissed off at myself even though there was no one there. I never want to be the person responsible for that shit!

I know, if I ever did that to someone I would be so extremely sorry and upset. You would THINK living in Minneapolis you would have some sort of thought in your head about bikers. She actually did it 3 blocks away from a main entrance to a very busy bike trail, so there are always tons of bikers on the street I was on. I would also think that moments before she had seen Matt bike by, as I was biking a few paces behind him, and often times if there's one biker there's another. She just flung her door open completely, no hesitation. She was around our age too but judging from her expensive car/over the top outfit/reaction to the whole situation she was of the non biking variety. I'm guessing since Matt was yelling at her she was just scared and wanted to run away, but an "are you ok? I'm so sorry, I totally messed up" would have been appreciated.

Shit, what a total asshole! Glad you weren't hurt seriously. A trip to the doctor just in case is probably a good idea though

No health insurance, yo.

Yeah, totally another reason you should have filed a report or at least got her license plate. Her insurance should cover that.

Getting doored is the same as being in a car accident imo - if you'd exchanged information/called the cops, you'd have gotten health insurance provided by her. Hindsight and what they say about it, I guess. She sounded like a total cunt btw. When I used to be able to ride my bike to work, it was all trail on the VA side but on the DC side, no way was I riding in the road. Thankfully there was only 2 blocks or so that I was supposed to get off the sidewalk (due to city law). I was deathly afraid of getting doored, and I've heard horror stories in the crazy overcrowded DC city streets from other bicyclists.

Btw, the shot of you from above with the plants looks like it'd be your newspaper column (re: horticulture or something) photo.

Haha, yeah that picture is totally like "Hi, I am the most happy when surrounded by these plants. Let me tell you about it"

Hindsight for sure. I read a bunch of stuff about how I should've handled it, and it was stressing that I should just print out what to do and keep it with me all the time so when/if it happens again I can just look at it and do what it says (i.e. stop, have the driver stop, call cops, exchange information, etc, just like a car accident, although in a dooring it is hands down the drivers fault always) since a lot of times you aren't thinking straight when something like that happens, I sure wasn't. I'm so non-confrontational and shy and didn't feel like fighting with this chick, just wanted to slither on home. I've always been afraid of getting doored too, and now, well, I'm more afraid. Maybe I will start wearing a helmet? Mehhh.

She has actually never paid any attention to them which is amazing, knock on wood, especially since they very much inhibit her from being able to easily look out the windows. I feel like if she knew that it would bother me she would fuck with them, just to have something to bug me with, but for now she sticks with licking plastic bags- my ultimate pet peeve (literally)!
