hospitals

I went home to Detroit over the Thanksgiving weekend because my grandfather was sick in the hospital. I spent a fair amount of time visiting him, and was left totally confused about a few issues. I'm sure it's primarily financial, but you're right, people should have more privacy in hospitals. Sometimes they do. Last time my grandma was in the hospital, she had her own room (a smaller room). Of course, with a smaller private room, that made it even more crowded when the whole family came to visit.

Eeesh. I don't think there's any reason beyond money. Although I remember a couple of times when I was in the hospital when I was younger actually making friends with my roommate and being grateful to have someone to pass the time with when my mom couldn't be there. Still, it's clearly a different thing for a child than for an adult. I wonder if the companionship thing was originally a consideration? Now I think it really just has to do with money--our health care system is in such big trouble. I'm sorry your grandpa's sick, though. Sorry I've disappeared from LJ land.
