In love with the (maybe) wrong person and trying to talk yourself out of it - I've tried it and it never works!

I like the comparison of the gas station rose to the real thing, nice.

i think he's taking the best stance here, backing off a little but not giving up since he doesn't want too. he's not letting anyone else talk him out of jake, but he's willing to shake off his need to hold on too tight and let things happen as they will. this thing with his grandmother has hit him hard and he's kind of at sea with his life all of a sudden.
i'm glad you liked the rose comparison. in all my mental floundering, i've been rereading some of my old stuff, even some unposted stuff, and i feel like i've gotten so stale. i read so many of the same things story after story. my self-confidence needs some love.

SOOO happy to read this. I'm so glad that Heath has found a way to convince himself he can keep seeing Jake.

Now, I was savoring having read this, turning it over in my mind, and the thought hit me - who might be catering the charity ball????
