You really NEED to come visit. The first time you experience the redwood forest, is truly a life changing experience. And each successive time, as well. But especially the first. I will take you to all the best groves and swimming holes!! I even know a few of the doors to Faerie... <3

Can't agree about the hunters though; hunting is as natural for humans as it is for coyotes. And that tomcat... is definitely going to eat some chicks, just as soon as they start hatching. Before that he'll probably eat some birds sitting on nests. Feral housecats are Very Bad News for wildlife.
Are Red-Shouldered Hawks uncommon up there? Down here, in the stretch of coast north of Elk they are the commonest Buteo. From around Elk south, Red-tails are more common.
Kites are already pairing up and defending territory, I see them flying toward the nest site; and two days ago I saw a pair of Red-tails doing courtship flight. It's that time of year again, yay!

I suppose it would have been alot more appropriate for me to say that I don't like sport hunters. I am actually not opposed to hunting for food, as long as it is done sustainably and respectfully. And in fact, I find hunting meat to be far preferable to farming meat, and would absolutely LOVE to see all of the land that has been converted for range cattle reverted to wilderness and more people actually hunt native animals for their food. Responsibly. Of course, I think we are a looooooooooong way from making such progress in America!! LOL ( ... )
