Question... ranedog November 3 2004, 13:53:18 UTC
When you say that you think drugs should be legal, does this mean that you think all drugs should be legal? Does this include not only marijuana, but also heroin, cocaine, ecstacy, all narcotics, etc? Just wondering.

It would probably cut down quite a bit on drug usage too.

As for stem cells, it isn't even just a life for a life. One stem cell can save millions of lives. There are millions of stem cells in fertility clinics that are going to be thrown away anyway - why waste them? They are never going to grow into people and they aren't even close to being a fetus. To me, that's not life yet. If I could donate eggs to stem cell research, I would. We have so many extra ones that just get wasted.

I guess that stem cells to me are like the environment to you :) I work with college students with disabilities and I see how difficult and painful every day can be and if there is a way to help some diseases, then I hope that we do. I have no idea how it will be regulated or carried out, but I hope that we get the chance to find out.

yes, i heard about researchers throwing away perfectly good stem cells and i think they shouldn't go to waste either. but what i was saying is i'm not totally against the research.

Problems with the democrats leutgeb November 3 2004, 14:20:09 UTC
I have a few complaints about the democratic party... Watching them for the past few years it frusterates me at how they just let the Republican spin run over them. Republicans have such an effective machine - a lot of it is lies - but they are effective. I wish that the Democrats could just take the bait and attack back. I hate that kind of politics, but jeeze, if it is necesscary to regain congress, then get a bit meaner. I hate saying that, but it might be necesscary for a bit.

Also, they need to drum up someone with a bit more chrisma. Dukakis...Gore...Kerry - not exactly exciting and people friendly. Looking at the exit polls something like 70+% thought that Kerry was smarter than Bush, to me that matters, but not to the Southern voters who need their religion to feel safe.

I think that Obama guy has excellent promise if he runs for the White House someday! I really think that it is really cool that you and Doug went to a rally!

The problem now is that the Democrats are in such a bad position that I don't think they will risk putting a minority or a woman on the 2008 ballot. I'm very proud of our IL senators and I hope that they are still able to acomplish something and aren't just paralyzed by the Republican majority.

The rally was cool - but HOT!!! I'm amazed that people didn't pass out in there!

I know I am coming in late on this one! I guess the best way to answer is to give my own position on your talking points ( ... )

cont'd

As for my general opinion of Democrats, I think we all want the best for this country and the world. We just have different ideas of how to reach that goal. I think the Democratic Party really needs to reexamine itself and why it lost this election. The smug condescension that the Red States are a bunch of backwards, racist hillbillies is why you guys lost. I know the gut reaction is to call us those names even more, but you're going to have to realize that conservatives DO exist, that we aren't all idiots, and that you need some of US in order to win! :)

i agree that help should not be given to those who have the opportunity to help themselves first. and i do believe in welfare reform because there are people who don't deserve it are recieving it. and that is a waste of taxpayers' money ( ... )

I can see your point on the drug issue. I just think it might be a logistical nightmare to make it all legal, try to round up the supply, etc. And it's not going to stop the drug dealer from selling! Think about it, if say crack is highly regulated and an addict wants more than the tiny dose the government will give him, all he has to do is find a dealer who will give him what he wants. The dealer can still make tons of money on it that way. And what about drugs like crystal meth, which is made from regular, legal products? How do you stop that ( ... )
