This community and the fans have been kind of dead for a while, no? ;) So we thought a good idea to revitalize our love for Whistle! would be to have a series of discussion posts centered around each volume. The way it will work is something like this: every two (maybe three?) weeks we'll go through another volume and discuss it. This gives you

I'll be following your prompt questions because I'm kinda sleepy at the moment and my brain isn't working too well. XD;;;
Favourite parts - SHIGE'S APPEARANCE ♥ ♥ ♥ Sho eventually winning Mizuno's respect. Sho becoming friends with Oyassan. Sho seeing how fun it is to play in a team (when he and Mizuno and the others were practicing for the match against the seniors). Sho kicking ass in that match. Actually? Just Sho. Full stop. XD And again: Shige's appearance!! Although it makes me happier NOW, because Shige is my favourite character, when back then, it was Mizuno. XD
Favourite characters (at that point) - Mine was Mizuno because back then I usually liked the pretty boys first-off. ToT /shallow I liked Sho but he didn't actually really catch my attention until a bit later on, when it becomes even more apparent just how good-natured, determined and ( ... )

You know, you're right, the storytelling is pretty good. It's quick, but not too quick.
Dude, I love the action panel in Whistle! ^_^ So good.
Yeah, Shou is definitely an awesome character <3 <3 I almost feel like he's underappreciated in the fandom just cause he's ...you know. not shige, not tsubasa, not mizuno. D:

Sho's brother is hilarious. Almost wish he'd had a bigger role later on.
Yeah, it was a painful moment when they all realize he's not a starter. Especially since you know it's not exactly his fault - I mean, he tried to tell them otherwise, but when you miss the moment, it's hard to bring it up yourself. And it was such a cold way in which it was revealed. :/ I thought it was a very human and surprising thing for Sho (who's so nice and sweet and understanding) to think 'it's their fault if they feel disappointed, since they were the ones who assumed I was a starter'. It shows how hard that moment was for him, even if he doesn't care about the embarrassment aspect as much as he cares about just plain playing soccer.
Mizuno... It's funny, cause I liked him a lot too right off the bat (shallow pretty boy liker <3) but upon rereading... I kinda think he seems like an asshole ( ... )

I like also that this manga is realistic. I mean, in the soccer moves. Yes, maybe later on in the manga they might be a bit too good for just middle schoolers, but at least it's not like other sports series (oh dear, I really do like Prince of Tennis, but...) where they end up doing all these superhuman superpower moves. -_-;;

I love that Kou works as a male escort. So entertaining! Poor Sho, having to look after his big mess of a brother. Their relationship is adorable. :)
I love the part right at the beginning when Tatsuya first sees Sho (gloriously missing the ball). I loved Tatsubon right then and there, all because of his arrogant face! And I love how he was the only one who had any inkling of an idea that Sho was not a great big soccer hero right away. His annoyance melted my heart, haha.
I must admit, though, that one thing that really bothers me is the fact that the MNM substitutes did not seem to train with the rest of the team. He talks about how all he ever did was run and juggle the ball. Seems kind of pointless to have a substitute who doesn't actually train at the game? Not really going to be able to substitute him into a game if he can't play. >.*sigh* And then we have Tatsubon outing him as not being a starter! To be honest, I don't really like Sho all that much (he annoys the ( ... )

Shige listening in on Tatsuya's talk with Honma via a can to the door is still one of my all time favourite scenes. It's just so ridiculous. <3 BUT my single favourite panel ever is definitely Shige playing house in the sandbox with that little girl. How does he know her?! Did he just show up and start playing with her in order to spy on Sho and Noro? Does he actually know the kid?! I need to know these things!! It's just so adorable, thinking of him letting some little girl play house with him, haha.
I LOVE that comic at the end of Tats plucking his eyebrows. It's brilliant.
Okay so I didn't actually answer any of those questions typically, but I prefer doing a complete read-through like this with comments. Easier to keep track of what happened. :D
