The content on this journal is going to be deleted shortly. The account will be used for following and commenting only, and as a historical breadcrumb to find me on less draconian services. For the record, Livejournal is now owned by a company that I don't like providing content for, subject to the laws of a country whose internet censorship lawsRead more... )

I haven't posted anything new (beyond the occasional stray comment on others') on mine for months. I do have my DW backup; that was in place years ago so I'm covered there.

It is truly saddening to see what's become of LJ. It used to be such fun. :(

Yeah, I guess my feeling with LJ is it's sad but not surprising. Ever since LJ was sold to a Russian company, it's always just kind of been a hostage of whatever the Russian govt. wants to enforce, and they're kind of dicks.

Just losing LJ in general is always sad. My little corner of fandom has changed ever since the Great Diaspora out of LJ, and none of the services really recapitulated it. I need to get back into just talking on DW. Tumblr has made me kind of self-conscious about Internet Talking, because there's such a lack of control about who is seeing what and I hate the idea of having someone being a dick about something that is just me thinking aloud. ;P

I can't say I'm surprised either. I thought the site was all but dead back in 2013; I suppose the most surprising thing about this is that it took them this long to finish it off. :(

I'm too lazy to get a Tumblr, even though that seems to be another hotspot for interests. I have so many other accounts now it just seems like yet another hassle...

Tumblr is easy to get into but is shit for actual discussion or interaction. There's no way to have any sort of organized conversation with anyone, and once you've posted something god only knows where it will end up. I censor myself on there more than I ever did on LJ/DW, because the last thing I need is stress because someone took what I said the wrong way.

Honestly, I'd stay wherever you're having fun. I moved to Tumblr because it seemed like most of the people I knew were heading there. In the end, life happened and fandoms moved around and really, i doubt I'm following a handful of people on Tumblr that I moved to Tumblr to follow, y'know? No real way to predict what will happen.

It's unfortunate that there's been such a diaspora onto half a dozen sites, but really, the fear of missing out syndrome is more bark than bite: so long as you've found enough things to keep you busy and happy, that's good enough, right? :)
