"I would... Really, I would. I just can't. But I will search for someone who can."
That's my voice!
She didn't know where she was, but it wasn't Edensphere - all around her was... pure. It smelled without taint, she could breathe easier, and she felt safer. Even freshly laundered clothes didn't smell this clean.
There was something else though... something she didn't think she'd have been able to smell if everything else weren't so fresh and lacking in pungent oders. There was someone else in front of her - she could smell a breath on her face, easy and with a comforting strength. It only barely tickled her nose, but it was there, and that was enough. Not unlike she knew her god existed because she could feel it, even if she didn't know his name.
"You don't have to - you have the potential."
She didn't recognize this voice, but it felt familiar. Potential... for what? Such encouragement...
"For what?" Her dream-self asked the ethereal being.
"To be my master. A ~~~~~~~ of Rao."
Master? Of... what? Not an owner, surely, for that would be inhumane to master a sentient creature! But... Rao... My god!
The wind picked up and a... creaking sound. Like something opening and crackling with... energy... magic!
"You must be going, but trust that I will appear to you when you have embraced Him."
"Come on, ~~~~~!" "Let's go!" "We don't have time for this!"
That seemed familiar - always running off to do something, needing to be somewhere else - and more voices she didn't know. One was effeminate, two were masculine, but one sounded older.
Not as experienced or energetically powerful as this voice near her tho, though.
Her dream-self was earnest and pleading, not as calm as she tried to be in Edensphere. "Please just tell me one more time - are you positive? I can serve Rao more closely than I currently do? I would do anything to-"
"Yes, lady. You can serve Rao as a Paladin."
The word Paladin reverberated into a reverse-echo of the being's previous statement: A Paladin of Rao. It felt like one of the most glorious things she'd ever heard. A title - a worthy title, something to be earned, something that carried weight in the world. That all at once said what you were, who you were, how you acted, how you treated other beings... It was a dream.
And this being - he trusted her to earn that title. He could see into her soul and told her she had the makings to become one.
I will not let you down.
