[someone's recopying this into her own notebook... she waits 'till she's done with that to respond]

It is better to keep such observations private.

Oh no! I'd thought by tearing the page out...

It was the closest thing I had on hand to write on.

It would seem the paper in the journals transmit, whether or not they remain in their bindings.

[strange response below keeps her from suggesting anything, even in strikeouts.]

I've touched a nerve, I think, Handmaiden.

Thank you; I've never been good at deciphering their codes. It will make maintaining order and peace easier.

They... start too much violence and unrest when left to their devices.

Violence and unrest? That's terrible!

You're very welcome, but who is this?

The world doesn't wither without reason. I like it here, but the rebels tend to throw it and their lives away-- and whoever gets in their way. Watch out.

That's... not important right now.

Another faceless friend, I see.

You may call upon me if you see fit. I am Rauxes.

Were you not informed of the nature of these journals?

Reply

white_disciple November 19 2010, 20:55:20 UTC
It seems I was not informed well enough.

The Faceless Friend appeared to be just more writing to me - and the colors a riddle - but I think I've struck a nerve somewhere with someone.

A pity. Find yourself a normal journal at the market.

Hm. Can you handle the threats of death for prying?

white_disciple November 19 2010, 21:03:16 UTC
Threats of death? For a color riddle? Surely you jest, Tian.

A strange form of entertainment.

You are naught but a foolish child, hatchling. You think you can waltz in, goo still fresh on your skin and openly interpret what is there? Think you that everything is on the surface, you are wrong

If you persist in the art of trampling over subtlety, surely you will perish.

IT'S CALLED DARWIN'S LAW.

I have been warned once already. I understand now that the colors are meant for subtlety.

If you read what we said as carefully as you ought then you would have noticed the importance of subtlety already.

But you are swayed by simpletons.

Handwriting does not convey intellect very well. How am I to tell the simpletons from the wise on paper alone?
