My roommates were Armenian, and they told me all about this. I've donated money and we've used the Irvine Progressive as a platform for talking about this subject. The government thinks Turkey is useful enough as a base of operations and a market of cheap crap to import to entirely deny the near-ethnocide of the Armenians and it fucking sucks.

thank you so much for your help in this matter, Chels. the descendants of the survivors deserve to have this vote go through, without bullshit politics getting in the way(as if bullshit politics could ever NOT 'get in the way' in the country). I don't know why i feel so strongly about this,(just ask Gin, for months its been "...did you know ... about the Armenian Genocide?" or "i cant believe...about the Armenian Genocide") because of course, I myself, nor anyone i have really ever known, is Armenian. I think it is because i love Systems music, and that i think it is truly noble that Serj Tankian and the rest of SOAD have fought so hard for their people(and their people's History) and the memory of those taken. But i also think i care because i hate that i live in a country that not only could, but will allow any foreign influence to dictate, through whatever means, whether or not we are allowed to observe a significant event in history.

anyway, the bottom line is that these people deserve for this vote to go through.
