What  are your recent anime and/or movie recommendations or "NO! STAY AWAY!!!!"s (unrecs?)?

Hmm, good question. What have I actually been watching lately 8|a

Magi: Labyrinth of Magic has awesome animation, equal opportunity fanservice and equal opportunity buttkicking, and tends to casually break cliches in half as it goes. It's set in a very ( Read more... )

Not an anime, but instead a light novel from South Korea; Legendary Moonlight Sculptor.

I discovered them awhile back, but hadn't gotten around to reading them until last Friday... the weekend now has me completely caught up with what has been translated.

I keep meaning to ask-- did you ever see "Hakuouki"? Bishounen silliness abounds (I think I did a post about it at one point...), but if you are familiar with RK, it reaches new levels of hysterically funny.

(also, in addition to the assorted anime, at one point they did little high school AU omake, which are also hysterical).

I've seen the first couple of episodes! I found it cute, but not engaging enough to keep going at the etime (mind, this was years ago now), and the idea it's based off a dating game and ends up with vapmires in it...? Unsure if I'm interested in samurai-vampire harems, no matter how amusing that sounds. But if you stand by it, I'll give it another shot. :|a

It's actually not vampires-- it's oni (which... per usual in English, I believe does get translated as demons, but, anyway). I mean, that does NOT diminish the overall level of, erm, conceptual silliness, in some ways, but there's more of a connection to things from actual Japanese mythology, and there are actually interesting plot-related things going on with oni-related matters.

I dunno; you can read the summary-thing that I did a while ago and see if you are interested ( http://users.livejournal.com/jane_drew_/89097.html )-- even at the level of, you know, "cracktastic with a side of bishounen" (or, you know, "bishounen with a side of cracktastic"....).

Ooh, oni changes a lot of things actually! Largely because I am just so tired of vampires, vampires eveywhere all romancing the pretty girls. >_>a So I just kind of kneejerk went NOPE when I heard that tidbit (oddly a lot of people are saying vampires. Maybe theyr'e just making a generalisation because there's some silly fangs or glowing eyes going on or something.) I will give it a second look then!

I know. I was really disappointed u_u I didn't even get that far in the series, but I sure as hell heard all about it from people panning it on Tumblr.
