I am such a slacker, it's unbelievable. I should be beaten savagely with a sack full of doorknobs. I expect you people to do a better job of keeping me in line, next time. In any case, a lot of catching up to do here (in fact, I'm pretty sure there's one movie I saw and then forgot about- if I ever remember what it was, it'll show up in a later

Turns out the director was totally candid about his genre-blending proclivities, citing his influences as:

Mad Max, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Escape from New York, Excalibur, The Warriors, No Blade of Grass, The Omega Man, A Boy and His Dog, Waterworld, Gladiator, Children of Men, Metalstorm, and Zulu.

So apparently we were spot-on with a few (he even mentioned Terry Gilliam in one interview).
