Summary: Sesshoumaru contemplates the importance of the insignificant.

He could remember the first time he saw her.  Small, weak, trivial, insignificant.  She had not even been worthy of his regard as she stood beside his sibling cowering in fear, a mere mortal, an insect.   A being of great power and stature Sesshoumaru had never appreciated the power of the minute.
It was a lesson he had learned well.  Like most insect she had started out an irritation, buzzing about at the peripheral of his vision as he battled his brother, shouting encouragement to one side and insults to the other.  Her voice grated on his nerves like the annoying drone of a gnat.  Still she was nothing, inconsequential.

That is until she stung.  It had come from nowhere, the unexpected barb of her attack.  She had shattered his armor, a feat that should have been impossible for something so puny.  And yet she, with her meager strength had stood against him like a wall, unyielding and unrelenting.   He would learn in time that this was how she faced every danger, without fear, without wavering.

He could recall how she stood against the greatest darkness of the lands.  How she refused to run and hide despite the odds, despite the fragile nature of her fragile, breakable body.  She had stood tall, defiant… beautiful.  Never had he seen anything so small appear so large.
It was then that she had stung him again, this time her barb had been more deadly, her strike had been deeper.  The aim had been much more deadly as it had shattered the armor around his heart and pierced his soul.

And so it was, Sesshoumaru, the great and powerful Lord of The West, fell in love with a mere human miko.  The most significant, insignificant creature he had ever laid eyes upon.
