Deeks glared at Kensi as he rubbed his finger. “That hurt Fern. You need to kiss it better.”

“It was supposed to. You’re just lucky I stopped twisting when I did, and you’re lucky that’s all I twisted,” she said, glaring back. “And don’t call me Fern.”

“You didn’t seem to care when I called you Fern last night.” He whispered, stepping closer. “And you can call me Marty anytime.”

“Well, Marty, I can tell you this, you won’t be calling me Fern tonight.”

“What do you want me to call you tonight?” He said reaching out to touch her arm.

She pulled away. “Nothing. You’re sleeping alone.”

It wasn’t until she spun and walked away from him that he realized she was serious. With a sigh he dropped to the floor and ran his fingers through his hair. He couldn’t keep up with her, and he was starting to believe that he would never learn how to speak her language.

Granted, he shouldn’t have spent the case taunting her, but she had to have known that he was just messing around. For the first time in a long time he had another cop to work with, and it felt nice not to be the odd guy out. Now perhaps he shouldn’t have flirted quite so much, but he hadn’t done it to upset Kensi, it just came naturally. And it wasn’t the first time he had acted like that. Though in retrospect, it was the first time he had flirted like that since sleeping with Kensi. And for as much as she insisted they didn’t have a relationship, they just had a thing, he was starting to think that maybe there was more to it for her.

She slammed the door behind her and threw herself onto her couch. Deeks was the most infuriating partner she had ever met. And just when she thought that he could be something more than a partner her had to go and screw it up. To think that almost for a moment she had been thinking about possibly, maybe letting herself fall for him. With a sigh she rooted around in the couch cushion for her remote. She was sure she could find some trashy show to take her mind off of her partner.

It was a shame that they couldn’t make it work. Because now she would be faced with the awkward problem of working with someone she had slept with. As she settled into the couch she pondered the ways she could get rid of Deeks so she never had to see him again. With a sigh she flipped through the channels. The problem was she didn’t want to get rid of him. If anything, she wanted to keep him all for herself.

Scrunching herself further into the sofa she found a rerun of Survivor and tried to shut her brain off for a few hours.

Deeks shut the door quietly behind him and frowned at Kensi sleeping on the sofa. She was curled into one corner of the worn cushions and he was sure that while she was going to have a horrible kink in her next when she woke up. Setting the pizza down on the table in front of her, he stepped back and waited.

It took a few minutes, but the smell of pizza woke her and he shuffled nervously as she stretched and looked up at him.

“Why are you here?” she asked, sounding more tired than angry.

He took a step closer to her and held out a six pack of beer. “Because. I wanted to see you.”

“The food can stay. You can’t.”

He nodded and sat down. “I’m sorry baby girl. I didn’t mean to upset you.”

“I didn’t say you could sit down,” Kensi said, trying to push him away with her foot.

Deeks handed her a beer and grabbed her foot with both hands. Silently he began to rub it, digging his thumbs into the sole. He grinned at her as she silently opened her beer and settled her other foot in his lap.

He worked in silence for a few minutes, watching as the tension and anger slowly melted out of her.

“Tell me what you want me to do Fern, and I’ll do it,” he said softly. “I’m sorry I flirted with Ava. I took your request to act normal too far. I knew it was bothering you, and I should have stopped. So just tell me, what do you want, how do you want me to act.”

“I don’t want you to act Deeks,” she shook her head. “I don’t know what I want.”

“I want you Kensi. I want as much of you as you’re willing to give me, and I will do whatever you want me to do,” he grinned at her. “You hated my wardrobe, you wanted me stop wearing the plaid shirts, I stopped wearing them. I will do anything for you Kensi, just say the word.”

She shifted on the sofa and pulled her feet out of his lap. Rolling her neck around she grimaced as it cracked.

“Come here,” he said as he turned toward her. “I’ll fix that for you.”

She silently slid toward him and settled into his lap, her back resting against his chest. He gently ran his hands up her arms before settling on her neck to work out the kinks.

“I don’t want to lose you Deeks,” she said softly, staring at the wall. “I don’t want you to leave me.”

“You haven’t, I haven’t. I’m right here,” he answered, running his hand through her hair.

“Eventually, everyone gets tired of me. I know that. It’s just how I am. I’m not easy to get along with. I don’t know how to let someone in,” she sighed softly. “I’d just mess it up, and then you’ll leave.”

He pulled her against him and wrapped his arms around her. “I will not leave you Kensi. I will always be here. I will always be your partner. I will always save you, and I will always be right here. We’ve worked together long enough Kensi, you have to know that I would never get tired of you. Yes, you’re not always easy to get along with, and yes we don’t always agree, but I’m not going anywhere. And I won’t let you walk away either.”

She nodded and shifted against him, burying her head in his chest. He gently began to run his fingers over her back, giving her time to sort out her thoughts. Finally, she pulled away and looked at him.

“I want to believe you,” she shook her head when he opened his mouth. “Hear me out Marty. I want to believe that you won’t leave. And I know that you believe that you won’t, but I need to believe that too.”

“How can I show you that I won’t?” he asked softly. “Just say the word, and I’ll do it.”

“Be there,” she said, meeting his eyes. “Give me time to get used to the idea.”

“I can do that,” he said with a smile. “And I can stop flirting with every woman I see. I can focus all my flirting on you.”

“What about Hetty? And Callen and Sam?”

“I’m not interested in flirting with them,” he said with a laugh.

“I mean they’ll notice that you’ve stopped.”

He shrugged. “And I’ll tell them I met someone that I’m crazy about. They don’t need to know who it is. And when you’re ready, and when we decide that we’re ready, we’ll tell them.”

Kensi nodded and looked at her coffee table. “Is that pizza for eating or are you just torturing me with the smell.”

Deeks shook his head. “I tell you that I’m crazy about you, and you ask about the pizza.”

“I’m hungry,” she said with a shrug.

“Are you hungry, or is that your way of changing the subject because you don’t want to talk about how you feel.”

She looked longingly at the pizza box before turning her head and meeting his eyes. “A little of both.”

“How do you feel about me Kensi. Tell me, and I’ll give you pizza and beer for a reward.”

“Is that the only reward?” she asked with a grin.

“What else do you want?” he said, a smile spreading over his face.

“Well, you’re already here, and it’s getting late, so maybe after we eat, you should just stay the night.”

He shook his head. “I don’t know. How do I know you’re not just using me for my food and my body if you don’t tell me how you feel?”

“Don’t you know?” she asked softly as she ran her fingers through his hair. Placing a chaste kiss on his cheek she looked up at him and met his eyes. “You’re all I have Deeks. You’re all I want.”

Kensi cracked her eyes open as sunlight streamed through her window. Shifting, she rolled over and crashed into Deeks. With a smile, she looked down at his sleeping form. Running a finger across his jaw line she grinned as his face curled into a soft pout. Resting her head on his chest she closed her eyes and settled against him. Maybe, just maybe, with a little luck, and a lot of faith, she would be able to keep exactly what she wanted.
