They were only a block away from the Mission when Deeks pulled over to the curb and put the car in park. With a grin he leaned over and softly kissed Kensi. Pulling back he smiled at her and ran his hand over her cheek. When she smiled at him he leaned in and kissed her again.
“I missed you.”
She pulled away and looked at him, a familiar gleam in her eyes. “If you had picked me up this morning, you wouldn’t have missed me as much. We would have had time to stop at my place before we went into work.”
“I’m sorry Kens. I wanted to be there, I planned on being there,” he said with a frown as he dropped his hand to her knee. “I screwed up.”
“Why were you sleeping there? I gave you my key for a reason,” Kensi said softly as she placed her hand on top of his.
“Your bed was lonely without you.” he said with a shrug. “I stayed there the first night, but I didn’t like it. And they really are spraying at my place. So I spent the night at work.”
She nodded. “And where are you spending tonight? Since you can get back in your apartment at midnight and all.”
He turned his hand palm side up and laced his fingers through hers. “Wherever you’re staying.”
Kensi nodded, biting back a grin at his answer. He laughed and gently placed a kiss on her forehead. He wasn’t sure what he had done right in his life to make Kensi fall for him, but he knew he would do anything to keep her.

After dinner at their favorite burger place, Deeks walked Kensi to her door. He had the duffle bag she had taken to Hawaii swung over his shoulder, and his arm around her waist. He bit back a smile as she slipped her key into the lock and opened the door.
“Marty? What happened to my apartment?” Kensi asked as she stepping into the living room.
Deeks tried to suppress his grin when he heard his first name. Kensi was always careful to call him Deeks when they were at work, and he loved when the day was over and they were together at either of their apartments and she used his first name.
“I told you I couldn’t sleep,” he said coming in behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist.
“So you cleaned?” she asked, turning to face him.
“Just a little. If you notice I didn’t move all your stuff around. Your apartment is still in chaos. I just did the dishes, threw out the trash, and did your laundry.”
She grinned up at him. “You did my laundry already?”
“Yup. I knew you probably didn’t have anything clean to wear when you got home,” he tugged at the collar of the shirt she wore. “Though, you do look nice in my shirt.”
“Looks better on me,” she said with a laugh. “It’s a good thing I took them all.”
“I’ll have you know that I miss my shirts,” he said wrapping his hand around her waist. “But I missed you more.”
“I missed you too,” she said leaning into him.
“That why you took my shirt with you?” he asked, running his fingers under the hem.
“No,” she pulled back and met his eyes. “I didn’t have anything else to wear.”
“Liar.”
“Maybe, just maybe I took it because I needed something to sleep in,” she said with a grin.
“I don’t know if I’ve ever seen you sleep in clothes,” he said raising his eyebrow.
She pulled back further and punched him in the arm.
“What was that for?” he asked, rubbing at his arm.
“If someone hadn’t stolen my night clothes,” she said shaking her head. “I would sleep in clothes.”
“I’d have given you something for Hawaii if you’d asked.”
She shrugged and hooked her fingers through his belt loops. “I liked you shirt. It smelled like you.”
“Did you find what you were looking for?” he asked softly as she cuddled against him.
He felt her shrug, but she didn’t answer him. With a sigh he wrapped his arms back around her and held her close. He knew she had gone to Hawaii for work related reasons, but at the same time she had let slip that she went for a more personal reason as well.
For a moment he had wondered if she had found Jack. Her long absent ex-fiancé still threatened him. He had done a search for him with the help of LAPD resources but all he had found out was that he didn’t have a criminal record in the state of California, and that he didn’t have any property owned or rented in his name. That was all the more research that Deeks had the courage to do. If he found something more, he would have felt the need to tell Kensi, and he feared she would go looking for Jack. And if she found him, Deeks didn’t even want to wonder what that would mean to their relationship.
“We’re in this together right Kensi?” he asked softly.
She looked up at him, confusion in her eyes. “In what?”
“This.” He said motioning around the room. “This. Us. You’re not …”
Her lips silenced him. She pulled him to the sofa, her fingers still wrapped around his belt loops. He followed her, letting her set the pace as she straddled his legs, and curled up in his lap. Tucking her head against the crook of his neck, he felt her run her fingers through his hair.
“We’re good Marty,” she whispered, her breath warm against his neck. “I’m back, and I’m not going anywhere.”
“Promise?” he asked as he wrapped his arms around her.
She nodded against him and cuddled closer. Running his hand down her back, he couldn’t help but stare at her. The first time she had cuddled against him it had taken him by surprise. She fit perfectly against him, and he loved her weight and warmth against him, but he had never imagined that she would be the type of person to snuggle. If anything he had pegged her as the one to steal the sheets and sleep on the edge of the bed. As it turned out, cuddling was just one of the things he had been wrong about when it came to a relationship with Kensi.
“It wasn’t about Jack,” she said suddenly, her voice muffled against his shirt.
“What?” he asked softly, not trusting what he had heard.
She shifted her head. “It wasn’t about Jack. What I did in Hawaii. It wasn’t about him. It was about my dad.”
He tightened his grip on her as she buried her head back against him. It still took him by surprise when she offered up information without him pleading for it. For as closed off as she was, once she decided to share something, he had found that she did it freely. He had also learned that they fought less if he was silent and let her think. It went against his nature, but he had learned quickly that the reward of information was worth it.
“If you want...” he paused, considering his next words.
She finished his thought. “When I’m ready to talk, I will.”
He nodded as she snuggled securely against him and closed her eyes. Reaching his hand out, he snagged the remote from the coffee table and flipped it on. He laughed when she opened her eyes and grabbed it from him. As she flipped through the shows she had set her DVR to record he groaned as she selected the newest episode from one of her reality shows.
“Really Kensi?”
“What?” she said looked up to meet his eyes. “I want to see it.”
“It’s almost two hours. Even without the commercials,” he pouted. “I thought we’d be in bed before then.”
She narrowed her eyes. “Bed hu?”
“I’ll make it worth your while,” he said, his hand slipping into the back pocket of her jeans.
She looked longingly at the TV and back at him.
“Really Kensi? You’re thinking about it?” he said, fake outrage in his voice.
“Just a little,” she said. “It’s the finale.”
He took the remote from her hand and turned off the TV. He shifted out from under her and stood. Scooping her up, he carried her down the hall to the sounds of her laughter.
