Eh... character musings, feel free to ignore
These are torn from an IM conversation/RP between Apollo and Lady Songra. Apollo explains what he is and his past here.
First I try to explain what the term "archangels" comes from. Apollo, Amadeus, Judas and a few others I will create later are all these "Archangels."
But Um... to kinda explain it: These "Archangels" They are called angels because they are seen to live forever. Winged demon like beasts that never die. They were christened archangels when the Judeo Christian religion began because at that time they were still willing to show their wings in public. They lived long before that. Um... Apollo had his name during the greek worlds as well and that's where they got their god of the sun, Apollo. :3 Rode on a fiery chariot in the sky to bring across the morning, etc etc
These are better explained later.
I also have another named Amadeus. i've spoken of him before. Deuce (amadeus) doesn't know what he is though. his memory was erased in the victorian era. (he has a totally off the wall storyline that branches off)
Here is where Apollo sort of introduces Judas:

Apollo: Uh... yes... there are many of us.
Songra; Interesting
Apollo: One is my compatriot that gets the jobs for my bounty hunting.... the other.. I have not seen in years.
Songra; Oh? Is he as cute as you..
Apollo: Heh... Judas is a very deadly, very beautiful man. Terrifying really. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Songra; how..did you get your name
Apollo: I decided to keep the name that I was given in Greece.
Songra: Buh? Story time! I wanna know how you got your name!
Apollo: *he laughed softly* Well I have been around for millions of years.... I suppose you could say. I don't know where we came from.. probably from a planet far away. I have had many names throughout time but I enjoyed being known as Apollo. I used to be far more arrogant and I rather loved having people worship me as if I were a god. The myth of Apollo... *he smiled*He drug the fiery chariot across the sky to bring morning and daylight to the grecian people.
Songra; *smiles* I like those stories
Apollo: All legend has it's basis in fact.
Songra: I always liked the greek's stories
Apollo: There were quite a few of us at that time... Many have gone off to seek different enjoyments... different planets. I... have always had a facination with Humanity so I have stuck close to earth.

Apollo: People are fickle. *he frowns* In the blink of an eye you are no longer important. Those of us that are everlasting learn that time is faster than you think and within a small breath one you love can die. I have loved many a human and lost many a lover. War has destroyed many a family of mine and so has plague. It's amazing how life continues even after such occasions.

Apollo: Judas had gone by many many names before he settled for the one he has now and I am betting he will change once judeo christian beliefs are a thing of the past. He was Ares.... er... Aries to newer humanity... he was always an angel of death to many. Calm, cool and collected, quiet and very thorough, he enjoyed the short and fickle lives of human kind. He still does.
Songra: I see
Apollo: He's a calculated man. But he's not evil.... I suppose he could be seen as such.

To sum this up:
Archangels are immortal beings that don't even know their own origins. Some have gone off to pursue other forms of 'entertainment' and others have stayed behind to linger around humanity. They gather their names from experiences in their long lifetimes and some choose to keep them.
I haven't decided on what happened to Amadeus yet to cause his memory loss. (something big.)
I feel that they should be able to make themselves mortal if they feel that life has been going on too long.
They seem to be a lonely bunch that has lost many and still continues on, wandering through time because they have nothing else to do.
