What a great manip, Whiteling! I love how well Frodo fits into the work of Millais. Look at those textures and colours, the line, the lyrical pose. "I'm sorry, Violet, but I am must go, committed to a Mission Unknown." The work on the fabric of the dress is simply gorgeous. I love the face you chose for him, and admire they way you worked his hair. Excellent
( ... )
Thank you, Mechtild! I'm sure, you know this moment well if one finds a compelling painting (or sculpture) and immediately imagines Frodo's face instead of the original male model. Which is mostly a huge improvement, I'd like to add. ;-)
Thanks so much for the interesting link to the Victorian Art! That's a real treasure trove. --- Kate led a rather eventful life with all ups and downs, it seems. And she died at the age of 90. Wow! From your link: "It is interesting to note that Kate did not actually meet the young Life Guards trooper, who is shown in the picture as her lover. Each leaned separately against a substantial wooden stake." Phhhffft - how utterly unromantc! I want my Frodo not only in the same room with me, but at the same time, too, please!
Which is mostly a huge improvement, I'd like to add. ;-)
Absolutely! But wouldn't you say Frodo has that effect generally? :) And, yes, I'd rather pose with my dear Frodo, not a wooden post. (Well, maybe a tent peg...)
I'm sure the Squire will stay and enjoy both cake and after-cake. *smiles*
I didn't know this painting. It surprised me for the detailed story it tell. The characters, the room details, the historical moment, they are all so eloquent.
Your work on this painting is perfect. I really like better your Brunswicker look than the original one. ;)
I thought to you last week for the "Canova Exhibition" at Parazzo Reale of Milano. http://www.mostracanova.com/ I hope to visit soon these Ermitage masterpieces and I wish you may visit too.
whiteling, this haremite gift surprised me and made me very happy. You made my day. *hugs you*
I'm so glad you liked the little gift! :-) (Call me biased, but I like my version of the Brunswicker far better than the original as well! Once a haremite, always a haremite, I guess ;-) )
Ooooh--- Canova! How wonderful! His work is so sensuous. I've seen his impressive tomb in S. Maria Gloriosa dei Frari. It's made by his pupils, of course, but was drafted by himself, and it's just wonderful. One of the dolorous figures looks like a Greek version of Frolijah! Yes, I wish I could visit this exhibition! *sigh* Enjoy your visit!!
Happy Birthday, Estelanui! And what a great present to receive! I am terribly jealous, too, that you went to the Canova exhibit. His Cupid and Psyche is one of my favourite art pieces. It speaks to me very powerfully, aesthetically, romantically, erotically, spiritually, the works.
Thank you for your wishes, Mech! And, no, I didn't go yet to Canova Exhibition. I hope to go next week. I will think of you, and maybe I will post some photos. :)
Wow, what a gift, sweetie! It's unbelievably beautiful. I'm sure he'll stay, who could resist this lovely lady ... Thank you, dearie! Great work! *hugs you tight*

I'm glad you like him too. Doesn't Frodo in uniform simply look dashing? *melts* "I capitulate!"
