Well, that was quite the surprise. It seems that there was a [pause] creature under my bed when I was trying to go back to sleep this morning. It appeared to be some sort of large spider that was attempting to spin a web in my room. After a short conversation, I was able to convince it to leave my home, though where it went, I cannot say ( Read more... )

So you just... got a giant spider to see reason?

In a way, yes. He was relatively friendly, all things considered.

[No, not going to mention that he may have said that the pickings were better down in a higher-populated area like Section 1]

Looks like you lucked out. The buggers I've encountered are more prone to lunging and grabbing than friendly conversation.

[See, now, that he could believe more readily. But then he would lineface because he lives in Sec. 1.]

I saw no reason that we couldn't simply talk things out, man-to-spider.

Yours is a spider? Ours was a shark. I do not even know how a shark works without water.

A shark? I [pause] Well, I suppose that I can see it. I've suspended my disbelief enough to accept that I'm living in a tree in a giant glass globe, after all.

You can disbelieve what you see?

He's talking and then pinged himself. whitelotuses September 20 2010, 03:30:14 UTC
You might be surprised at how many things experienced with the senses can be illusionary.

Did you understand it, or could it speak human language?

And how big was it?

whitelotuses September 20 2010, 02:07:46 UTC
It spoke my language.

It was roughly the size of a large dog.

I'm not sure I want to know how a spider was capable of human communication.

I have stopped trying to understand it, myself.

[Lies, but you know.]

That sounds kind of scary! Did it try to eat you? How did you convince it to leave?

I believe it was nearly as frightened of myself as I was of it.

[Nevermind he wasn't scared for a second. But he has to appear meek and unassuming, so...]

It was quite the civil creature after I calmly explained that it was not welcome to nest under my bed.

I think I would have been scared. We had a giant centipede the other night, but we didn't try peaceful negotiations because it tried to eat Krile.

I don't expect every creature can be reasoned with. Given the alternatives, I suppose I was lucky to have such a monster in my home.
