I love the artist mind

I do my best to paint with words but don't consider myself a visually inspired person. Also, I can't draw to save my life--not even stick figures. It's why I'm hugely admiring of artists, not only for their talent and skill but for that internal mechanism which I think they're born with that allows them to see the world in such creative ways. *snork*

Best summary of Twitlight I've ever seen *g*

I've only read bits and pieces of Twilight and just couldn't stomach it. Whatever Meyer has tapped into is pure magic, and the woman is making serious bank. Unfortunately, I can't figure out what it is.

Meyer has, as I'm sure you know, written a series of cookbooks for the worst kind of destructive romantic relationship fantasy. Banking magic, yes; mothers are joining their teenage daughters in the dreck-adoration. No wonder our divorce and DV stats are sky high. A thirteen year old girl told me last week that of course she wanted to die when her abusive boyfriend broke up with her, "just like Bella, because it was true love." It's hard to take the whole My Little Pony sparklypire thing seriously, but when you hear things like that...

I can't tell you how glad I am that my oldest girl is still too young to be interested in this crap. I'm hoping by the time she is, the Twilight craziness will be dead, buried and forgotten.

Raising tween and teen girls is already nightmarish enough without combating this kind of warped wish fulfillment.

Oh, and if you want to read an incredibly funny and spot-on summary of Twilight, follow the link provided by thistle_verse (points up) in her comment.

You made it to Book 4? That's either mondo endurance or sheer masochism.

I hear her book The Host is better both prose-wise and in storytelling.

Yeah, I don't subscribe to a lot of the high drama panic that sometimes blossoms when books like these enthrall a young audience. I remember people freaking out over Harry Potter and how Rowling was going to single-handedly turn every kid between 9 and 18 into broom-wielding witch. This, however, is different in that it isn't the sparkly vampirism that's scary, it's the f-ed up relationship between Bella and Edward being portrayed as romantic and loving. Ick.

Yep, the art had me howling. Almost as much as the link thistle_verse posted in the comments. See above and follow the link. You'll be glad you did.
