Angelica reluctantly had her bags all packed for the trip tomorrow to the new school. She was still upset about Emma's decision, but hopefully the time would pass quickly and she could come back to the Massachusetts Academy.
After she crawled into bed to sleep,
her bracelet began to glow. Not that she realized that because she was trapped in her dreams, which had suddenly come alive with weird, terrifying images. A monstrous, grinning blue elf began flashing around her, and she instinctively knew that he had come to witness her death. She turned to flee, and then Wolverine sprang forward. With a savage, inhuman snarl, he dug his metal claws into her face. She screamed as her flesh tore, knowing she would be scarred for life, if he intended to let her live -- which he did not. Within seconds, his claws would penetrate her chest, burying themselves in her heart. She had to act now to save herself. She knew what must be done.
But she hesitated, unwilling to use her powers against another person, and her chest exploded into a fury of pain and gore.
"No!" she screamed as she woke up.
Her door burst open moments later, and Emma, dressed in white nightgown and matching robe, ran into her room. "Angelica! What is it, dear? What's wrong?"
She huddled in a small ball on her bed, still shaking. "N-Nightcrawler and W-Wolverine of the X-Men were trying to kill me!" she said.
"Take it easy, honey," Emma said, sitting beside her and wrapping her arms around her shoulders. "It was only a bad dream. A nightmare."
"But it seemed so real," Angelica said, starting to cry now. "I'm certain that they really wanted me dead! But Professor Xavier seemed so nice when I met him before."
"As I've often told you, my dear, appearances can be deceiving," Emma said. "But I'll never let them hurt you, I promise you that. You believe me, don't you?"
"Of course I do," Angelica said. She felt so much safer with Emma here. It made the thought of leaving all the more unhappy. "You've already helped me so much."
"Then trust me when I tell you that no matter how hard the X-Men try to get to you, they will have to come through me first," Emma said.
Angelica threw her arms around Emma, hugging her fiercely. "I know," she said. "I know."
