Firestar was originally created for the cartoon "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends" way back in 1981. Despite the fact that she was referred to as being a former member of the X-Men, she didn't appear in comic book form (aside from a one-shot Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends issue) until 1985, when she popped up in Uncanny X-Men #193 as a member of Emma Frost's Hellions. Shortly after that, a 4-issue mini-series was published to explain her origin and how she went from Hellion to hero. (Contrary to the cartoon, she never was officially a member of the X-Men, but she did go on to become part of both the New Warriors and later the Avengers.)

In comics canon, Angelica Jones was a shy, lonely girl who just happened to be a mutant. Her powers, the ability to manipulate microwave/electromagnetic energies, began to manifest when she was thirteen years old. Her beloved grandmother had recently passed away and her single father wasn't able to deal with Angelica's new powers, and that, coupled with the bullying Angelica received at school, made her even more miserable and alone.

Almost simultaneous, Angelica was located by both Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and the Hellfire Club, but Emma Frost reached her before Xavier could and persuaded Angelica's father to allow her to whisk her away to the Massachusetts Academy where she could receive the help she needed with her powers. Of course, Emma being the White Queen of the Hellfire Club, she had very sinister plans for Angelica and intended to groom her to become her personal bodyguard and assassin.

After over a year of training at the Academy, Angelica had learned a lot more control in the use of her powers and practically worshiped Emma, seeing her like a mother figure. Unlike the other Hellions, Angelica remained unaware of the true nature of the Hellfire Club and just what Emma wanted from her -- to be her trained assassin. Emma frequently planted telepathic suggestions in Angelica's mind to keep her from becoming suspicious and to make her feel that Xavier and his X-Men were dangerous and out to hurt her and Emma.

One of her teammates, Thunderbird, blamed the X-Men for the death of his brother and wanted revenge. Fellow Hellions Empath and Roulette wanted to help, and since they wanted some extra firepower, Empath used his emotion-controlling powers to make Angelica fall in love with him so that she'd go along with them to attack the X-Men. The attack ultimately failed.

Firestar, once free of Empath's control, felt guilty over having helped the Hellions cause so much trouble. She was pleased and touched, however, when Charles Xavier offered to admit her into his school. But she refused out of loyalty to Emma (and the mistrust of Xavier that Emma had implanted in her) and returned to the Massachusetts Academy.

Not long after this incident, Emma decided to send Angelica away for awhile to put some distance between her and Empath, and she was concerned about the influence meeting the X-Men might've had on her. Angelica didn't really want to go, but Emma assured her it would only be for a short time. She didn't want to send Angelica home for fear that Xavier might try to snatch her up, so instead she sent her to Fandom.

Powers
Angelica can tap into the Earth's magnetic field and convert it into microwave radiation. She can then use this radiation to generate light and/or intense heat (capable of almost instantly melting metal and solid rock or making objects explode or burst into flame), disrupt electronics, or fly. She can also sense microwave signals (cell phones, remote controls).

When she gets angry or upset, she sometimes may lose control of her powers and accidentally light a fire or disrupt electronic devices. She'll never affect anyone else's belongings without OOC permission, of course.

Also of Note
She wears a gold bracelet with her name engraved on it. It was a present from Emma that she treasures, but it's actually a device to make Angelica hallucinate whatever images Emma wishes to try to make her feel threatened and afraid.

Angelica obviously knows a much older Emma, but a younger Emma than say, Jono's Emma. She's from roughly the same time as Bobby Drake, though he's probably a little ahead of her now. She's familiar with the X-Men of that time (and the New Mutants), though due to Emma's grooming she thinks they're bad. Their kindness to her after the attack, however, has her confused.
