He knew Jim's body was prone to scarring. McCoy was the CMO, after all, and he'd seen the old chicken pox and acne scars, the cut across Jim's forehead from that away mission gone bad - the one that took forever to heal and then never really disappeared. The gouges on his hands, the faded bump under his chin, and that tiny nick out of his ear lobe. Some people are just prone to scarring, and Jim was one of those people. His scars heal but never fully disappear, leaving pale red lines and thick distorted skin, and McCoy has seen it all
