That part is definitely my favorite one. Its image was the strongest of this lot, and one I've had in my head (rather, Zuko getting in trouble for impersonating himself) for a while.
Sad. Really damn sad.
That seems to be a pattern in Sparky's life so far.
I don't know precisely how to explain it - I spent more time on this one, and it was definitely more difficult to write, likely because I have a harder time getting into Zuko's head generally. Part of it is that he's usually such a quiet character and part of it that I just haven't written him that much. (On the other hand, it's very easy for me to get into Katara's head.)
Since I did go into some detail with Katara's endbit, Zuko's was more an illustration of how I feel he copes through singlemindedness: Get the kids somewhere safe, deal with the task at hand, grieve later. I didn't accomplish that as well as I'd intended.
