Zuko never stayed long in one place. (Katara left the safety of the Xi household as infrequently as she could manage.)
She hated running - hated being away from the place that was not home, because it meant she was among the people she failed. (For the first time he was meeting his people, seeing them and knowing them, and it left him wanting to serve them.)
His resolve strengthened the longer he waited, trained, studied; he knew he must succeed for the sake of his nation. (Her decision to stick this out unto the bloody end was for her alone.)
