Yep! If I recall correctly, that was the first 'sports' car imported from Japan to the US. Before that, 'Japanese car' was synonymous with boxy subcompacts. THIS car really was something VERY new...

Looks like Japan's answer to the Ford Maverick! Nicer looking than those, though. A lot nicer.
