OTD 30 years ago - right this very minute, in fact - I was watching The Lion King for the very first time. And I would go again to the second afternoon matinee at 3PM! The tickets are kind of faded now, but you can see the times on them if you really squint. 🙂

I refused the opportunity to watch the film around the time it came out when my family and I visited my late maternal grandparents in Oklahoma then. I recently watched it in full on Disney+ and wrote this review. I think I might have posted it here on LJ, but for some reason my journal won't load, for some reason.

Oooo, I love fond mementos like this!

I had a similar experience with the Little Mermaid film, at a pre-opening screening of "Under the Sea" and "Kiss the Girl" ... the audience reacted with overwhelming jubilation!

Lion King was certainly (and IS) still an enduring sensation!

Doing great, actually! Stopped drinking a little over a year ago, I walk 3-5 miles every morning before dawn, and I haven't even had a cold in over 6 years. Not bad for someone who's going to be 70 in a couple months, if I do say so myself. ^^

Historic moments. :)

I remember that I for whatever reason deliberately didn't go to see it, I guess because I was in my cynical hipster phase of "eww, disney is for kids, I'm not buying into their hype." And to be fair, a lot of press at the time was not super flattering about the storyline.

Not to mention I don't even know where a movie theater was during that time in my life.

That said, I did come to love it when I did watch it, and I have the laserdisc box set now, among other things, and I think may've signed up at one point with the First Church of Nala. ;-P
