As of today, not one person of the 18 who have reviewed Paul Auster's latest novel on Amazon has understood it. The allegory, the bitter irony, the hypocrisy, the whoring, the self-absorption (he mentions the Weimar Republic for a reason) was so unsubtle it almost bludgeoned me to death, and still not a single reviewer took any notice of it ( Read more... )

I said exactly the same earlier today - using clumsier words. Shutting reality and trading it for a place where everything is all right, should be as obvious as how filthy snow gets after people walk all over it.
