Spice and Wolf is great - it's a different kind of anime that I've never seen before. It's not based on fighting, and the main theme is actually medieval economics with a touch of magic thrown in. The two lead characters are as different as night and day. One is a young merchant named Lawrence who is hoping to become prosperous with the help of his companion, the other lead - and she is the wolf-god of the harvest, Horo, who has taken the form of a human, with the exception of having wolf ears and a tail. She is able to transform into a monstrously huge wolf and she is an exceptionally good judge of character. The two start to fall in love as they travel together, and the progression of the story is just as much about their strengthening bond as about the trading that goes on. The duo's ultimate goal is to return Horo to her homeland in the arctic forests of the north.
It's a brilliant story and if you ever get the chance, I highly recommend that you see it! It's my favorite TV series of all time, as it stands at the moment...---
