001. Any of you southern ladies or gentlemen (or non-southern folk, too!) know a good etouffee recipe? I've been craving it daily. Mmm.

You know what I find funny? Starbucks preaches environmental hoopla and shit--their cups are what? 70% recyclable materials?

...and yet, there's not one recyling bin in any Starbucks. All those lovely cardboard cup go right in the trash.

What's king cake? I suddenly feel as if I should make one.

Yup. I think that all the cups are now 100% post-recyclable material. But you're right. I mean I understand (partially) the reasons-- for example, the city of Austin doesn't give service to businesses that allow them to recycle in bulk... But still! I'm sure that they could pay a company to do that for them, if they so chose. And don't even get me started on how much water they waste in the water wells to wash like... one spoon... all the while selling $1.78 bottled water for raise money for clean water elsewhere. Ugh. Eyeroll.

King Cake!!! Mmm. It's a Mardi Gras thing. And today is Fat Tuesday, so Mardi is starting up. Hooray! The tradition, though, goes back ages... You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_cake

The pictures don't do it justice, but it's like a flaky, croissant kind of cake. Delish!

I have a recipe for a "Galette des Rois" but it's in French... I should translate that bad boy and make one. Then again, I hate to bake like I hate liver so....

Oooh, the real thing :)

I've heard that cooking King Cake is not an easy task, but, if you ever want someone to try out the recipe, I'd give it a go :D
