...and I'll be dancing with myself.
I've got so much to talk about, but I don't want to write a novel today. So I'll hit the high points.
1.) Charleston was AMAZING. We ended up staying an extra day because we were having so much fun. We drove down on Monday and got there in time for dinner that night. I had forgotten how much fun road trips with another person could be since I usually take them by myself. On Tuesday we hit the open air market, did a brief wine tasting, and I tried oysters for the first time ever at a place called the Noisy Oyster. They were a lot of fun, but there's not much to them - just slurp! and they're gone. But we got good and tipsy on beer, oysters, and heat and then went on a carriage ride where we got to see some of the historical homes. GORGEOUS. We probably took 100 pictures of just architecture. We then walked a few blocks to tour the old 1802 jail, which is supposedly the most haunted building in South Carolina.
Wednesday we hit up Fort Moultrie, which is a pre-American Revolution fort on the coast which was in use all the way up through WWII. It was a gorgeous day, and there was lots of goofing around to be had on the cannons and in the tunnels. Thursday we did an incredible tour of the harbor by boat. The international tallship festival was about to start, so we got a clear view of about 10 of the most beautiful tallships in the world. My pirate side was like a kid in a candy store. There were also DOLPHINS in the harbor. It could not have been more incredible, or so I thought.
Joshua's aunt and uncle were so nice to me, and they took us out to dinner that night at a place on an inlet called Shem Creek. The food was amazing, but right after sunset we looked out the window to see an entire pod of dolphins fishing and jumping around about 25 yards from us. They looked like they were dancing in the lights from the restaraunts. It was mind-boggling.
2.) Faire is still incredible. I had one of my favorite moments in all of my faire life so far this weekend. I'm always up on the dais during feaste, and we have some of the musicians and entertainers play for us as if we were holding court. Last week we gained a poet who sells his books at a booth. Beerslayer had approached him about reciting some of his poems during feaste, so the two of them (along with Captain Amos) decided to have a little fun. Keep in mind, my character is the black widow who kills off all of her husbands for their land. The poet approached me, laid his sword and book at my feet, and began reciting. It was a beautiful and sad poem about being in love with a woman who does not return the affection. I'll admit, I was getting a little misty-eyed. The whole pub was listening in rapt attention. Which made it all the better when the poem ended like this:
"...I could hold you for only one night,
But not on a wedding night,
For love will last an eternity,
But husbands last only a week, I see."
The whole pub EXPLODED with laughter. It takes a LOT to throw me off in front of an audience, but I'll admit I was absolutely speechless. I finally gained some breath, cocked my head as if in thought, and replied, "There MIGHT be some truth in advertising..."
Good times. XD
