What is your guys opinion on Christians drinking(alcohol that is) when you're of age? Do you think it's ok to do it socially on occasion?

This conversation has frequently came up lately so I want to know more input...:)

well i think you know what i think about it but i'll state it anyway. i can't remember any place in the bible where it condemns drinking, only getting drunk (gal 5:21, 1 cor 5:11, prov 20:1) it is dangerous as a witness in our society (rom 14:21) so i think it might be a little different for different people. read the entire chapter of romans 14 (pay attention also to the very end- if a person is convicted by drinking but does it anyway because of reasons other people have convinced them then it is still sinful) keep in mind- this applies to people who are of legal age to drink. and also, read the scriptures.

...It is not for Kings to drink wine,
Nor for princes intoxicating drink;
Lest they drink and forget the law,
and pervert the justice of all the afflicted.
Give strong drink to him who is perishing,
And wine to those who are bitter of heart.
Let him drink and forget his poverty,
And remember his misery no more."

-Proverbs 31:4-7

Drunk=bad. Drink=not all bad. Though it is different for some people. Some people are convicted about drinking, like myself. I'll never do it simply because it convicts me, but I know Christians who do do it and I don't think it's wrong. Now smoking cigars is different, it makes me terribly sad to see anyone I respect doing that.

I don't think it is a huge deal to really have to discuss at length--I see it as a maturity issue as well as a social issue, really. What do I think about Christians drinking alcohol? The same as I think of anyone drinking alcohol. Most of the time it is unnecessary that their beverage be alcoholic, and in the case of drunkenness, they have obviously consumed too much ( ... )

So you're saying you can sin as much as you want, as long as you're glorifying God? I'm not sure you can do both.

Exactly. stevecaird March 11 2004, 14:37:00 UTC
But you will begin to despise sin all the more as you realize the way it grieves God when you turn to your old sinful ways; your desires will be for righteousness, which is glorifying to God. So yes, I do sin all I want, but I don't want to sin at all! I try not to deliberately sin as often as possible, but still I do--it's not something I am proud of!

Dude, I had about a page written before the NMU e-mail website automatically signed me out without my authorization, so this post is NOT the full extent of my thoughts, nor is it a quotation from the previous and long-gone entry, which, I felt made a lot of sense and was much more in-depth. I am kind of frustrated with that now, but I would like to talk more about this later. Grace and peace, bro. -Steve

Even though i havnt really...thought about this issue i thought i would. I think its bad, well im 16 but i have been to peoples houses and they try to give me a drink but i know that its stupied and it makes you either try to forget something, and i think having to somewhat overtake an part of life that some peopel arnt really strong enough to tlak to or are to bundled up to tlak to someone about. But its like showing a different side of yourself that you somewhat like better but cant get out. which personally i think is dumb. so dont drink its stupied and it kills. you can be cool and have friends with out doing it. but its a different story if you are older and arnt getting Drunk.
