Lot's wife has always been a bit of a difficult case for me, because what's so bad about turning around? My best guess is that their group was just barely ahead of the wave of destruction (The angels tell Lot "We can't start until you reach X spot"), so by "turned around" Moses actually means "stopped to watch, and got caught up in it".

Or maybe it's like the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark, where the Wrath of God works through abject terror of a sort that you have to be looking at to be effected by it.
