Interestingly this doesn't seem quite as painful and twisted as the original...

In my defense, pain was really the point of the original!

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of fluff. I think that's one of the reasons I like this remix, too. It leaves the reader on a more hopeful note, but doesn't lose the dark edge!

Thank you for writing this! I think you achieved what I could only half-manage in my story: An IC Martha/Master story! Bravo!

I'm really glad you liked it. I loved the original so it was quite easy for me to decide which one of your stories to play with. Thanks again. :)

For. The. Win. The fragmented back-and-forth between present and past is perfect, definitely brings out the combat Martha brings to both her bizarre, abstract affair with the Master and to whatever it is going on with the Doctor, just like it should. A way more satisfying coda to S3's finale than we ever got onscreen; her anger fits.

“I’m not any of them, Doctor.”

Love the way she says that, like twisting the knife. Like she is not, in fact, harmless.

This has a wonderfully creepy tone. The fragmented sort of structure works really well.

I love the way you made took the creepy darkness of the original and turned it into completely different creepy darkness -- the bits of Master dialogue are particularly effective.
