I never said I do any of it well ...

As my MacBook just told me, "stack overflow - failed integrity check"

O_o

I think it's questioning my integrity!

Is there perhaps a nice Linux binary you could pilfer to get working in your OS? I've not had much to do with Macs so not sure if it is possible but I know it has a terminal somewhere and that might have a tarring command?

Yeah, most linux/unix code is usable since OSX is essentially a Unix box running a Mac GUI. There's no point reinventing the wheel, just re-parsing it. I've snooped around for something usable and I have wrangled a way to do it in a command-line environment.

The thing is, there's a part of me that wants to wrap it up in a nice little GUI of its own and open-source the shit out of it ;)

This? This is one more thing you can put down on the list of reasons you are incredibly awesome.

Because I know what it's for...

Your icon is incredibly awesome! Plus, you should be kind of weirdly proud that you made me write code, I reckon!
