This weekend Lindsay and I are off on a little Halloween/pre-anniversary roadtrip to Spring Green, WI for the American Gods Gathering with Neil Gaiman (http://thehouseontherockjournal.blogspot.com/).  We decided to drive instead of fly for a bunch of reasons.  Thursday ( Read more... )

That American Gods thing looks awesome. Shame its all the way out in WI! I just realized I don't even know where WI is on the map. I have a feeling most American's don't either.

Definitely envious of your American Gods trip. Laura & I just drove to Indiana this past weekend, and we listened to The Daily Show's "Earth: A Visitor's Guide to the Human Race" and "Soon I Will Be Invincable". Both are quite entertaining, but the latter seemed to put Laura to sleep every time I turned it on. :)

I've done the Indianapolis to Chicago Trip many times, and I can't really say that there's much to see (except for maybe the bare lot where the Crossroads Cinema used to be).

Have a great trip!

Thanks! Earth has been recommended a few times, so that's definitely on the list.

1) I got nothing
2) Again with the nothing, but I'm sure there's something....I just haven't looked around because I plan on doing nothing but recuperating from two back to back hopefully sold out Music Box shows.
3) Depends on your price range and what you're looking for. Downtown or out in the burbs? Fancy vs Boutique vs Classic Chicago? Palmer House Hilton/The Drake/W are the three I would put someone up in if they were looking for downtown lodging but none of them are cheap.
4) I've done the Indianapolis to Chicago drive a million times. It's a giant wasteland of corn. You're way better off driving through there as fast as you can and spending some quality time in the Dells.

It's our last night of the trip, so I wouldn't mind splurging a bit. I'd also like to take the Monday morning traffic situation into account. Any thoughts on what part of town to stay in to get me onto 90?

Stay at the W and get a lakefront view room, but it's gonna be a $379 plus parking room and you'll have to wait until rush hour traffic is over before leaving on Monday. Palmer House Hilton and The Drake will cost you about the same, but you're next to Millenium Park with the Hilton and next to Michigan Ave shopping with the Drake.
If you want less expensive and in the suburbs I think Pheasant Run in St Charles is kinda nifty, especially if you stay in the older section (I think it's called the Courtyard Section) of the hotel, it's got a Dirty Dancing 50's lodge feel to it because that's when it was built even though it was renovated in 2008. It's got a comedy club attached to it so you can maybe catch a show if you getin early enough and there's one playing. A courtyard King bed room will cost you $109 plus tax. It's not near I-90, but it's on North Ave close to I-53/355 which branches off of I-90 so it's not too bad.
