Is it normal for people to plan things in advance for the holiday? It seems like that's all everyone's talking about now. That and the missing trousers and skirts, but... I don't get it, what's the big deal?

It's either plan and feel happy about it or don't plan and just not do much! It's actually pretty neat, I think, making preparations for the holidays. Gives purpose for all those days off.

But what if something happens to surprise you during the holiday? Isn't spontaneity fun, too?

Depends what the surprise is. If it's something sad like your dog dying while on vacation, then not so fun. Yet, if it's like winning a trip to your favorite place, that's fun! Still though, what if nothing happens and you just sit around waiting for it to happen? Not so fun.
