Character: Nia Teppelin
Series: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
Age: 21
Canon: Gurren Lagann is the touching story of a boy and his drill. That boy is Simon, and although he starts off as a simple digger trapped underground in a miserable world, he eventually becomes the creator of a new age and the savior of all humanity--with the help of a few giant robots and an ever-bigger succession of drills.
One of the people who joins him on his journey is Nia, an abandoned princess. She was never meant to be anything but a doll to amuse her father, but with the help of Simon and her new friends in Team Dai-Gurren, she slowly grows into a full person who in the end does more than her share to save humanity at Simon's side. Of course, on the way she has to pretty much learn about life outside castle walls from the ground up. Even when she's adjusted to her new life, she remains a strange girl. She's both kind and quirky, helpful and earnest but with a very strange approach to language. It doesn't help that even after seven years of trying, she hasn't figured out that her cooking is all but lethal to anyone other than Simon. She's not so much stupid as at right angles to reality, and with her head stuck in the clouds.
Well met, everyone! My name is Nia, and I'm new here in camp. I hope you will help me welcome you all...um, no, you're the ones who should be welcoming me, right? Yes, that's how it works. In that case, please allow me to show you why I am worth welcoming! I may not understand everything about this place yet. In fact, I don't understand much at all. But I do know that I want to help. So I've asked the helpful toucan what I can do, and he sent me here. I'm afraid I'm not really sure what "here" is, though. What exactly is this "mess hall"? Where I'm from, we try to clean up our messes. I thought it might be a custom here to leave them lying out in a hall. Maybe it's art? I would be willing to help make the best mess we can create together, if that's the case!
But it doesn't seem to be very messy in here. That's all right. All places have their confusing customs, and I'll learn to adapt. It looks like one thing you do here is cook. Everyone, please allow me to help you prepare your meals! I enjoy cooking very much, and I think if I do something for you that I enjoy, I can put the whole of my heart into it. Once, maybe I would only have put part of my heart into it. But now I know that's not our way. Especially not when I've been told there are many among you, called "zombies," who don't even have the whole of some parts of themselves. I'm going to try my hardest, for those of you who can't.
To show my resolve, I've prepared some samples! I worked hard on these, so I hope you like them. Please, everyone take some. I made enough for everyone, so you shouldn't fight, Sir Gorilla. I know we can all get along if we try.
Ah, is something wrong? That's all right, you don't have to leave so soon, or in such a hurry. If you'd like, I could make dessert--um, is everyone running? If you have somewhere you need to go, I understand, but remember to come back later! I'll have something ready by then. Wait, Sir Zombie, you left your hand behind! I think you need that.
Is everyone gone already? No, it's all right, I'm sure they'll be back. Until then, I should come up with something new to make. After all, Simon might come here next, and that would be a good way to greet him. I hope he doesn't come too soon, though, because it sounds like a lot of people are getting sick. I must ask if there's anything I can do for them. Maybe that dessert would help...
