Personality: Hisoka tries to keep everyone at arm's length, both literally and figuratively. Towards people he doesn't know, he's closed-off, unfriendly, and suspicious. He doesn't like to be patronized, reminded that he's young, or reminded that there are things he can't handle. He has a somewhat combative personality: when someone does one of the aforementioned things he'll get annoyed, and if they're outright taunting him he'll take it as a challenge; he has kind of a bad temper. The nature of an impending fight doesn't really matter to him; he's determined to win, whether or not he can handle it, from sword fights (maybe) to drinking contests (not a snowball's chance in hell). He holds grudges, and he can be vengeful, depending on a given person's offense. He's serious to a fault, with almost no sense of humor, and he's quick to blush when teased. He's also unapologteically blunt, and has no problem pointing out the shortcomings of others, or ideas: he's not much of an optimist. Even with people he knows well, he's quiet, preferring to say things that need to be said rather than talking frivolously, and he doesn't allow himself to lean on people, so to speak.
Underneath the cold surface, though, he's a good person. He doesn't lie unless he has to, and isn't interested in manipulating people, and he'll protect people he doesn't know. Once someone has gained his trust, he's an extremely loyal friend. His coldness and suspicion towards others largely stems from a bad childhood; it's just hard for him to get past them. It doesn't take long for him to trust that someone has good intentions, but it does take a long time for him to allow people to get close to him. It's a protective practice, like hiding in a shell: he loved his parents and they subsequently mistreated him; he's just keeping himself from getting hurt.
Hisoka doesn't really have any hobbies or interests outside of his job. He's intelligent but not particularly athletic, so he's often the brains of an operation, being cautious and thinking things out, while his partner, Tsuzuki, provides the strength in a fight. Despite his strong-silent-type façade, he's not impervious to fear. He's courageous, but just like a normal teenager, when push comes to shove he's afraid of dying (again), and he's afraid being hurt (emotionally, like if someone very close to him were to disappear). The violent manner of his death also still haunts him in nightmares.

Strengths: His body regenerates automatically when damaged; small wounds heal immediately, big ones take longer. Under most circumstances, he can't die: he would have to be thoroughly destroyed, with nothing left to regenerate. Additionally, he's been somewhat trained with a sword.
This part is sort of complicated: he's empathic. His feelings synchronize automatically with those close to him, especially if they touch him. If people who are in pain touch him, he'll feel pain, for instance; if an angry person touches him, Hisoka can inadvertently direct their anger back at them (Tsuzuki once touches him while angry and gets repelled back, and his hand is bleeding). People who are feeling strong emotions don't have to be that close to him; he'll know what they're feeling anyway. This isn't always as vague as just 'happiness' or 'sadness' (although it can be): sometimes, unintentionally, he also knows what they're thinking. For example, at one point Tsuzuki is thinking a lot of complicated thoughts about Hisoka's closed-off-ness, culminating in a wish that Hisoka should be more open, and Hisoka says out of nowhere that he's just naturally cold to people. Another time, a girl he's in the same room with is dreaming, and he knows what her dream was about. It's an inconsistent part of his ability; most of the time, it doesn't happen. However, if a person close to him is thinking something directly at him with the intent that he should hear it, he will.
He can also sort of search the energy in the room for leftover traces of intent or feelings, which occasionally helps to find things or people.
Weaknesses: It'd be pretty easy for an athletic person to overpower him with plain strength. His empathy can also work against him, as very strong anger, despair, or pain can practically incapacitate him.
