I guess everyone's already said it themselves, but what a brilliant waste last night. We ... did what we could, and I apologise to anyone we didn't manage to save. I saw the one deity talking about it. He mentioned that we're all in his domain. I'm not the one who figures myself good at chess-mostly because I'm not, that's Ron's thing-but I can ( Read more... )

I think there's a point, but I don't think it's anything that's geared toward helping us.

What do you think it is?

Whatever reason we're here for, it's for the deities. There's theories that negative emotions fuel and power the clock in the Underground, so what's better than creating a bunch of negative emotions to feed whatever pet project the deities and their masters have cooked up?

It's a theory, though.

Where do theories come from, anyway?

How was that-

[a pause]

Well, good to know you're so changeable.

There is nothing wrong with taking a cue from the people around you, Harry, and trying to enjoy moments for what they are without thinking about what you could do to change the situation. Life can't always be a pitched battle, even in our heads, even when it should be. The stress of it would drive us to, well, any number of unpleasant things.

There is no reason to be miserable. Don't dwell on it if you can't change it.

So it's better to lie and say we're happy?

I never suggested lying. It's better to be happy and appreciative.

I don't want to trivialize it by saying something like, one should focus on trying to make their glass seem half-full and half-empty. This isn't about optimism or pessimism. More that the one in control of your attitude is yourself, not the rest of the situation.

I can't be okay with what's happening here, especially with what happened.

We ... saved a lot of people, but not everyone. You know that, don't you?

Feeling guilty, Potter?

How-

Why would I feel guilty, Malfoy?

Not being able to save all those poor people, of course.

You wouldn't want them dead, either.

Fancy a fly about, then? If it's not thinking about things you want. It's what I've been doing.

It won't do any good.

Harry.

Doing something, even if it's just getting on a broom, is loads better than sitting around alone and sulking about the fact that we can't do a bloody thing while we're here. You think I don't feel the same way, especially with what I've just come back from?

Come on.

Right.

Well. Let's go, then.
