Character: Simon
Series:
Tengen Toppa Gurren LagannCharacter Age: 21
Canon: Once upon a time, humanity was forced to live in underground caves while creatures called Beastmen kept them down there using force and giant robots. Humans, of course, don’t take that kind of rubbish and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann follows the story of how a boy, a man and a girl busted their way to the surface and lead a rebellion against the Beastmen. Armed with drills, stolen mecha, and the admirably daft ability to go beyond the impossible with their fighting spirit, this rag-tag group of humans manages to reclaim the surface for mankind, having wacky adventures and shouting “Who the hell do you think I am?!” along the way. The boy of this group, and eventual leader of this rebellion, is Simon.
Simon is a man who is determined above all else, and knows the value of fighting for what’s right. As a boy, Simon was unconfident in his own abilities and relied heavily on his “big bro” Kamina to show him the way; over time, he overcame these obstacles and many hardships to become a courageous, fierce leader in his own right. These qualities persist into his adult life, as well as his friendly and good-hearted demeanor. Whilst Simon can be a little naïve and hot-headed for the time of peace he now lives in, his heart is always in the right place and he will usually find a way to power through all obstacles in his path. Once Simon’s set his sights on a goal, it’s nigh on impossible to deter him, and after listening to one of his fired-up fighting speeches, it’s hard to imagine why you’d ever want to get in his way.
Sample Post:
It’s been a while since I’ve been in a place like this. I never used to believe there was a world outside the cave we lived in, because I’d been there as long as I could remember. I don’t remember coming here either, but that’s not really the same thing… I know I haven’t been to these Highly Experimental Life Lengthening Labs, Camp division before. I still know we’re underground right now, because of those leaky cracks in the ceiling. Just what kind of work are you doing down here anyway, that makes them too busy to fix a leak that’s burning holes in the floor? I won’t believe that all those people with their skin hanging off wanted that, even if you called it a ‘Free Chemical Peel’. The whole thing feels wrong, and I won’t stand for it. Not in H.E.L.L., and not anywhere else.
Aah, but if there’s a way in, there’s a way out. One of the purple Beastmen in the white coats down here already pointed out the map in the hallway. There are nine levels to this place, right? Level one was ‘Limbo’, level two was ‘Lust’, and this ‘Denial' level is where I am now. It’s just a matter of breaking through to higher levels, and then the surface! I know there has to be a way to level up… all I need is the right item. You guys should come too; no one deserves to be trapped in a dungeon like this, whether you’re Beastmen, human, or anything in between. Some of you are missing limbs and parts of your body, but don’t worry. Thinking about these things can come later, and if you’re missing the back of your head, thinking won’t be a problem. You’ve already come up through six levels; together we can reach the top, the top of these dungeons! We’ll beat the boss of this place. I don’t care if the Director thinks she has the last word, she can’t keep you in Denial forever.
But... I can tell you’re all scared to go up there, even if it means freedom from this H.E.L.L. I’ve heard the rumours about the surface here, about how monsters roam free and won’t take no for an answer. About how the surface at this time of year is more dangerous, that there are no treats, only tricks. Well, I’ve heard enough of that! Break out of here and show them what you’re made of: your fighting spirits are willing, even if the flesh is weak and falling apart. Don’t worry about what’s going to happen after you revolt, or whether it’s the right thing to do. You should be revolting, and some of you already are revolting. But don’t fight just because you're told to fight. Don’t do it because the scientists say, or the Director says, or because Simon says. Do it because you need to! With courage bursting holes in your chest, and fighting spirit moving your dead arms, you’ll break out of this lab into the swampy air above. Even without your tongues, and teeth, and unable to speak, all of you, all of us, will make ourselves heard!
Who the hell do you think we arrrrgh?!
