edible found items/illicit foodstuffs

a piece of rye bread lifted from the fan-like arrangement waiting outside the boardroom, slathered with organic raspberry jam, found in a half-frozen jar in the back of the office fridge. goes down like buttah.

this morning i bought a bagel on the way to work, planning to toast and butter it once in the office, and there was no butter in the work fridge! or cream cheese! or anything to put on it at all, except old lumpy blueberry jam, which is what i resorted to.

but it was a disappointing instance of believing that the universe would provide: and the universe not coming through.

(i realize this all might sound entitled: but there's usually butter around our office, and cream cheese, and other spreads: so it's not crazy, anyway.)

i thought the right to butter and cream cheese and other spreads was immutable, under the category of life and freedom of thought?
